High quality, semi-synthetic, highly pressured (ep) gears are used in the mining of closed gear boxes, but can also be used in any large, low-speed, high-load industrial gear boxes. The use of lead-containing additives in shell mine gear has been developed. Special combinations are used for the performance characteristics of highly pressured shell ore gears, and the performance additives are much more environmentally friendly than traditional industrial very pressured wheel oils.
