Effective 1 april 2007, the cost of applying for british visas will change and the same rate will be maintained globally。

However, for 96 per cent of visa applicants, the vast majority from china, the cost of applying for a visa has changed very little, even for some applicants. This is amply demonstrated by the importance of visitors to china and students studying in the united kingdom。

The british visa application costs were developed and settled centrally by the british government in the pound sterling. In addition to this fee, applicants are currently required to pay an additional administrative fee of 220 yuan at 12 visa application centres in china。

The current requirements for obtaining visas in china are as follows:

Visas in transit through airports

$480, visa fees + $220, administration fees totalling $700

British visa commission

Standard (six-month entry visit) visa and ads tourist visa

$800, visa fees + $220, administration fees totalling $1,020

Student visas

$1360, visa fees + $220, administration fees totalling $1580

Long-term visas

$1360 plus $220, total $1580

Residence visa

4160 plus 220, total $4380

British visa commission

As of 1 april, visa applicants will not be required to pay any additional administrative fees of $220 during the application process, as follows:

Visas in transit through airports

$704 — an increase of $4 from the original level, which will affect 0. 32 per cent of visa applicants

Standard (six-month entry visit) visa and ads tourist visa

$1008 — a decrease of $12, which will affect 79. 4 per cent of visa applicants

Student visas

British visa commission

$1584 — an increase of $4 compared to the original figure would affect 16. 3 per cent of visa applicants

Long-term visas

$3,200 - an increase of $1620 over the original figure, which will affect 3% of visa applicants

Residence visa

$800 — an increase of $3620 over the original figure will affect 0. 98 per cent of visa applicants
