On the afternoon of 20 may 2026, with the support of the programme of support for lectures by guests of the graduate classes of my school, zhang ning, a beijing city trial operations specialist and deputy director of the integrated office of the beijing intellectual property court, was invited to the room of bishop 519 of the south road school of the academy to give a lecture on the topic “practical analysis of the core clauses of intellectual property authorization”. Under the chairmanship of professor zhang jinping of the faculty of law, with the participation of professor dou wing, associate professor zhang xiaoping and associate professor yinqiu, and with the presence of dozens of undergraduate and master students of the faculty of law。
Zhang ning, deputy director of the integrated office of the beijing intellectual property court, expert in trial operations, beijing city. Over 2,000 civil and commercial cases and over 2,000 intellectual property cases were considered in cumulative numbers. The paper was presented with the second prize for the national judicial colloquium and the first prize for the city of beijing. More than 20 academic articles were published in people's justice, electronic intellectual property, people's court newspaper, chinese intellectual property newspaper, etc., and case analyses were recorded in chinese court annual cases for five consecutive years。
At the beginning of the lecture, zhang ning based on the beijing intellectual property court's functional positioning, systematically described the background, jurisdiction and rules governing the establishment of our specialized intellectual property courts, detailed the process of first and second instance proceedings in authorized cases, and helped to clarify the jurisprudence of intellectual property cases。
He then focused on the concept of the foundation of patents, comparing the scope of protection of patents in the three categories of inventions, practical novelty, visual design, review of models and duration of protection, explaining the role of the core patent texts, such as the statements of claim, and identifying “public exchange of protection” as the core principle of the patent system。
In the light of years of trial experience, zhang ning has also shared the experience of judicial practice, encouraging students to cultivate their expertise, expanding the pool of cross-cutting knowledge, taking into account legal rigour and comprehensive capacity-building, and building the foundations of future practice。
Zhang jinping summarized the lecture. He said that intellectual property rights were an important safeguard for the country's innovative development and that it was to be hoped that students would use the lecture as an opportunity to further develop their intellectual property fields and to learn the professionalism of good practitioners, and that law schools would continue to build a platform for professional learning and practice to help them develop into good legal talent。
The lecture is of both theoretical and practical value, helping students to systematically grasp the core knowledge and practice elements of intellectual property rights mandates, clarifying the legal orientation of intellectual property rights, broadening professional horizons and laying a solid foundation for future professional studies and career planning。
