“first session of the new media industry alliance, new media network, 29 november 2008New mediaThe opening ceremony and 2008 annual china new media festival, the china international conference of new media industries, were held at the national political consultative hall in beijing. This figure shows zhang yijun, director of the department of science and technology digital publishing, national press and publications directorate。

Zhang yijun: good morning, ladies and gentlemen and friends! The first conference on the new media industry, co-sponsored by prominent groups such as the china economic press association, new media enterprises and institutions of higher learning, was inaugurated today. On behalf of the directorate-general of press and publications, i would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the department of technical and digital publishing。

The science and technology digital publishing division was established this year. It is our sincere hope that, through hard work, we will be able to contribute our minds and energies to the development of industry, and we sincerely hope that this will be tantamount to support from all sides, both inside and outside the industry. The general assembly offers us today a valuable opportunity to exchange views with you, and we express our deep appreciation here. At the invitation of the organizers of the general assembly, i would like to present below some brief summaries and a brief analysis of the latest developments in the digital industry that are available to us。

Recent years have been marked by significant changes in the reading habits and environment of the population as a result of the rapid economic development and the continuous increase in the level of it technology and internet applications. The digital publishing industry in our country has witnessed unprecedented rapid growth。

The annual report of china's digital publishing industry for 2007-2008, published by the chinese institute of publications and science under the auspices of the general administration, generated more than 36 billion yuan in total income in 2007, an increase of 70. 15 per cent over 2006. The internet and multimedia network interactive periodicals generated $760 million and electronic books $200 million. Digital newspapers, which include online newspapers and mobile newspapers, receive $1 billion, blogs, $975 million, online music, $152 million, and mobile phones, which include cell phone bells, games, animations, and $15 billion. Internet games generate $10. 57 billion and internet advertising $7. 56 billion, and the overall income from digital publishing is expected to be close to or above $53 billion in 2008, an increase of 46. 42 per cent over 2007。

It is important to note here that, although the development of digital publishing is very strong. But it is not enough to destabilize the traditional publishing industry as a whole. Compared to the total income of our traditional newspapers of 9,908 million yuan in 2007 and the digitized press of 1,966 million yuan, the latter earn only 1. 98 per cent, or less than 2 per cent, of the traditional newspapers. Despite the database of selected centralized scientific and technical journals published in 07-08, individual literary original sites and web games have achieved impressive results. The critical link between the operation of new media and profit patterns remains largely under exploration。

The vast majority of traditional publishers are in the early stages of developing a reliable and stable pattern of digital publishing on a scale. In addition, the prevalence of digital processing of publications, traditional methods, lack of composite talent, digital copyright protection techniques and delays in new media regulations have become important constraints on the development of the digital publishing industry。

Through analysis and forecasting of statistical results, digital publication will also maintain high growth in the coming years. The increase in the size of its income will remain at around 50 per cent annually. At the same time, the original site will rise rapidly and the original focus of content will inevitably move from print to online media. In digital management, the publication software will shift from process management to content management. In hardware, electronic paper readers and digital devices will develop simultaneously and rapidly. This translates cross-media publishing from theoretical thinking to reality。

Of particular note is the relatively mature pattern of charging for mobile communications, which has led to the later generation of mobile phone publishing, although at a later stage, to a higher level of return and the fastest digital publishing type. With the advent of the 3g era, mobile phones have evolved from simple means of communication to mobile media, and mobile phone services and mobile video have entered the lives of ordinary people at short notice。

A new point in digital publishing will inevitably focus on mobile publishing. In 2007, the digital publishing industryElectronic booksThe digital press, digital periodicals, blogs, podcasts (video-sharing) and mobile phone publishing are among the first to bear fruit, with the following distinctive features. With regard to the electronic book industry, more than 400,000 electronic books were published in the country in 2007, an increase of 60 per cent compared to 250,000 in the year 2006, and by the end of august 2008, the volume of electronic books published in the country had accumulated to 500,000. In terms of size of income, this represents a growth rate of 33. 3 per cent, compared to 150 million yuan in 2006. This set of data reflects that, although the size of e-books income has increased more rapidly in double digit terms, the problem of synchronized publication of e-books has not been adequately addressed because the increase in the number of publications has not been synchronized。

With regard to the digital press, the number of digital newspapers published by more than 300 newspapers nationwide has grown from less than 50 in 2007 to more than 600 in july 2008. This shows that digital newspapers are expected to become more widely available. The development potential of the x-ray cell phone is very strong. At the beginning of the year, the number of mobile colour cell phone subscribers was 2 million, rising to 2. 04 million in april of the same year. As of april 2007, china had 350 million mobile subscribers and 20 million mobile phone subscribers, exceeding the circulation of any chinese print media. After the 3g era, more than one third of cellular subscribers will subscribe directly to news messages。

With regard to the digital periodical industry, after the peak of its development in 2006, multimedia periodicals, in the absence of a consistent and reliable lead model, retreated from venture capital and supply channels and now fell to 800, with an impact of only 20 or so. Since the second half of 2007, the multimedia periodical industry has entered a period of relative silence. The total revenue of the internet periodicals industry in 2006 was 502 million yuan, of which the traditional revenues totalled 400 million yuan and the multimedia periodicals totalled 102 million yuan. The total revenue from the internet periodical publishing industry was 760 million yuan in 2007。

In terms of operating income, our internet periodical publishing industry grew by 51. 39 per cent in 2007 compared to 06, while traditional periodicals grew by 42. 39 per cent, and the internet periodical publishing industry grew at a much faster rate than traditional periodical publishing. The central role of blogs as online home is becoming increasingly evident. From the very beginning, blogs serve only as a limited platform for recording and communicating, and have evolved into an integrated platform that brings together many new types of services, thus building a blog-based system that can further function and apply the role of individual online life. In more specialized language, blogs are making a qualitative leap from 1. 0 to 2. 0. Personal media began to appear。

According to data, in december 2006, the number of chinese blogs reached 60 million, climbed to 91 million by the end of 2007, and is expected to reach a billion in 2008. After intense competition, the portals qq, msn, new wave, etc. Have entered the first tier of the blog market, and many of the professional blog sites have retreated to the second stage. A significant number of professional blogs have been eliminated because of lack of competitiveness. With regard to mobile phone publishing, mobile phone reading is the third largest 10 per cent of the billing items. In the wfp content needs survey, mobile phone reading exceeded mobile games for the first time by 19 per cent, after entertainment drawings and news browsing, it can be deduced that mobile phone reading, demand and demand are growing, have enormous potential and promise。

These trends indicate that future digital publishing, accompanied by the development and refinement of new technologies, will continue to move towards unlimited personalization and demand-driven and cross-media publishing. This is my brief report to the general assembly on the partial shape of the digital publishing industry from the perspective of the division's terms of reference, for information purposes only, and concludes by wishing the first new media festival and the new media industry congress every success. Thank you
