As the broadband comes to an end in the home, the operator's customer service calls, and he opens his mouth to the old user's exclusive advantage. According to the ministry’s latest data for 2025, 40 per cent of the country’s 580 million broadband users spend an additional $300-800 per year on blind renewal, amounting to several large meals for nothing。
As a publisher who has been dealing with operators for many years, he has collated the empirical experience of thousands of internet users, taking into account the latest policy of the beginning of 2026, and telling us in the most straightforward terms: the renewal of the old user contract is not so simple as “buttons”, finding the right way, not to change the number, not to break the leg, to save $500 easily, and the six pits are one year's fall, and remember

Understand: why is the old user more expensive
A lot of people wonder how it's better to spend years on broadband than to pay for new users. This is actually the operator's little idea:
The introduction of a new user would cost hundreds of dollars for installation, roll-out and particularly high costs, and would attract new people with a low-cost package; but the old user was used to existing services, lazy, mostly passive, and the operator would naturally not volunteer the lowest price。
Rest assured, however, that the revised telecommunications services code at the end of 2024 makes it clear that operators cannot discriminate between the basic expenses of new and old users, that old users have every right to benefit from the same benefits as new users, and that the key is not to be lazy and to be proactive
500 bucks for the old user. It'll work
Step one: take 10 minutes to "check" and negotiate
Don't rush to get a customer's uniform before the contract is renewed. Get ready, or it'll be easy to take the nose。
First of all, check your food packages. Opens the app (mobile, connection, telecommunications office) to find my broadband, and writes down these three things: broadband takes years, how much is the current package for a year, how long it lasts. The longer it takes, the better the bargaining chip, many operators have additional discounts for older users for more than three years。
Then we take a physical velocity test. At 7-9 p. M., the internet peaks and is measured three times using tools such as spedtest, with averages. If a 500m contract is signed, it is measured to be less than 400m, or often cardon, this is the reason for the negotiations — the operator has to guarantee internet speed, which is their obligation, not their additional benefit。
Finally, look at the competitive price. Open up the app of two other operators and find out how much broadband is in the same class in your neighborhood。
Step two: talk to the right people. Turn the net is the key leverage
When ready, direct calls are made to the operator's official telephone number: 10086, 10010, telecommunication 10,000, do not grind with the normal passenger service, or say “broadband renewal commissioner” or “user retention department”, who have preferential approval rights。
You don't have to bend around and say, "i'm an old user of your family's x-year-old. The broadband x-day expires, and now the package is one year x dollars. I think the next operator's 500m broadband is only $380 a year. Can you afford the same price? No, i'm thinking of reconnecting."
Be firm, but peaceful, and not fight, just send a clear signal that i have a choice. According to internet users, 78 per cent of them said that after that, the customer service offered a discount, either at reduced prices or at a free speed。
If the client's service says “can't do it”, then “i apply for the write-off of broadband”, the rate is probably transferred to higher-level commissioners, who have hidden advantages and a much higher success rate. This was done by mr. Lee, a friend of shanghai's, who used the 1,000m broadband to be $1,200 a year, and finally said $680, three months more, saving $520 a year。
Step three: identify three details and avoid subsequent ripping
It was not a good move to negotiate prices, and the savings might be added。
First, ask if there is a contract. Priority is given to “no contract” or “one-year period”, with no longer than three or five years of long-term contract, even if it costs an additional $10-20 a year. Otherwise, there may be a high default rate to be paid in exchange for a low-cost set-up and a move。
Second, automatic renewal fees were closed on the spot. Allows the customer service to write "close automatic renewal" in the system and to send text messages or ap messages for confirmation. Many simply forgot to turn it off and were deducted at the original price, which was half as high as the preferential offer。
Third, to verify the existence of additional charges. Ask for “appointment fee, lease of equipment”, the new regulation of 2025 requires operators not to charge unreasonable installation fees, all of which are eligible for relief. All package details and communication records are kept on screen and, in case of any subsequent problems, are advocacy vouchers。
6 high-frequency pits avoided by 1 economy
Pipe 1: automatic renewal = automatic overpayment
This is the easiest pit to step on. When many people open automatic renewal fees, they are charged directly at the original price, and the preferential price for manual renewal may be half as low. In 2025, users reported a withholding of $1080 for automatic renewal, while the manual renewal was only $600, with an additional $480 spent at a time。
(c) pipe avoidance: 7-15 days before the expiry date, the operator is manually shut down and automatic renewal fees are paid for treasures, microclinics, even on a later offer。
Pipe 2: tied packages “looks like a realistic waste”
The customer service favorites the integration package called "broadband + cell + flow + membership", which rents more than 100 times a month and says "one full package". But if you already have a low monthly cell phone number, and members don't use it, these bundlings cost money, which is much more expensive than single broadband。
Pipe avoidance: the need is simple to choose a “one-broadband” package; there is a real need to bind, to include only the base paragraph “broadband plus commonly used mobile phone numbers” and to reject excess traffic packages and members。
Pipe 3: "free speed" with hidden charges
The client service called and said that “old user exclusive, free speed up to 1,000 m”, and it was tempting to hear that many “free” lasted only three months and automatically added “speed up” after expiry, 10-20 dollars per month, which could not be found without checking bills。
Pipe avoidance: three questions first: how long? Will there be automatic charges when they're due? Can you slow down at any time? Direct refusals cannot be guaranteed free of charge, but must be accelerated so that the client's service is clear and the text is confirmed。
Pocket 4: long-term contract “tracking choice”
The operator said that “two-year routers” for the next three years were set up, and that you were tied to death. In the event that a cheaper package is subsequently made or moved to a small area without the operator's line, default payments are made for the transfer of the network and write-off, with hundreds less and thousands more。
Pipe avoidance: the right to a flexible choice can be preserved by giving preference to a one-year or uncontracted package, even if it costs an additional $100 a year。
Pit 5: blindly chasing high bandwidth and spending money
Operators promote “2000m fibre-optics, hypervelocity experience” every day, but 500m is fully adequate for ordinary families — watching 4k films, playing games, painting videos, downloading a 2gb film for dozens of seconds. One thousand ms spends 200-300 more a year on 500 m, but the feeling of internet speed is not obvious and is a waste。
Pocket avoidance: 1-2 people choose 300m on a daily basis; 3-4 people choose 500m on the internet at the same time; more than 1,000 m is required only if multiple people broadcast and upload large documents at the same time。
Pit 6: marketed in small areas, 20% above line
There are often operators in the neighborhood who come to the door and say, "only today's exclusive concessions." don't believe it! These people eat on the basis of their earnings and recommend the most profitable packages, which are much more expensive than the official app。
(c) pipe avoidance: directly on the app of the operator, with transparent prices and easy to compare, without being pushed to order。
These hidden benefits. Don't be wrong. Pass
In addition to a direct price reduction, these benefits can be sought on an offer, which is equivalent to a benefit:
1. Free extension of the length of time: a large number of customer service will give one to three months of broadband to an annual paid user, amounting to more free service
2. Free upgrade of equipment: light cat, router used for more than three years, may require free replacement of gigabytes, with a marked increase in internet speed
3. Free delivery of value-added services: such as video membership, cloud storage and telephone fees, which reduce daily expenses
4. Refund of the security deposit for equipment: the deposit for the previously broadbanded cat, roof box and, if so, the annual fee, which many have forgotten。
Don't put up with any problems. That's how it works
If the operator refuses to give reasonable concessions, has hidden fees, and the speed of the net fails to meet the standards, it does not have to tolerate the noise:
1. Maintenance of evidence: communication records, food packages, speed measurements, bills
Level-by-level complaints: first, a customer service from the operator, requiring a solution within 48 hours; if it is not satisfied, the supervisory authority will supervise the restructuring by calling the ministry's complaints hotline 12300 or by means of an online complaint from the ministry's political services platform
3. Call for help: complaints to consumer associations, or through the people's network leadership message board, show that broadband-related complaints have reached 92 per cent in 2025 and that most of the problems can be solved if there is sufficient evidence。
I'll be honest with you
The broadband renewal is not a small matter, and it takes more than 10 minutes to prepare and communicate with the customer service, saves $500 a year, and less than a small expense. The loyalty of the old users deserves to be respected, and we are actively seeking concessions not to take advantage, but to defend our legitimate interests。
