The city of wuhan, hubei province, is known as the city in which the river is prominent in local culture. The third largest river in the world, the yangtze river, and its largest tributary, runs through the centre of the city, dividing the wusheng region into three parts, creating a pattern that divides the three towns of wuchang, hanguchi and hanyang. The chinese poet li bai, who wrote here, “father flute in the yellow crane building and the may plumes in the city”, is also known as the city of wuhan. The city now has 13 urban areas and 3 national development zones covering an area of 8467 square kilometres, with rivers and river ports spanning the country, with hundreds of large and small mountains, 166 lakes and a quarter of the city's total area, constituting a unique ecological environment for the coastal lake。
