"the cucumbers in the north city are $8/kg! I can't afford it." in recent days, one citizen has reported a marked increase in the price of vegetables and fruit, which is lower than buying meat. So why did cucumber prices go up? How much did they go up? On the morning of 6 august, journalists paid a special visit to the new farming market, where many shopkeepers learned about cucumbers。
“the cucumber price is one per day! These three days, the price of a box of cucumber (about 10 kg) went up by $70 and the retail price by an average of $2. You came to the market last week to buy it." mr. Zhou, a businessman from the new farming market, said:。
Journalists have learned that cucumbers sold in the market are mainly from solidarity, peace and kunyang. Of these, cucumbers in solidarity villages range from $10 to $12 per kg and cucumbers range from $12 to $15 per kg. After comparison, journalists found that ordinary cucumber prices are almost equal to chicken chest prices, while small cucumbers are fast pressing fresh pork prices。
“in fact, the price of vegetables is rising every year, but this year the cucumber is so much higher that it's almost up to the price of meat. But i'll still come to the market for food, at a cheaper price than the supermarket, and i can choose fresh vegetables.” aunt wang, who comes to the market every day to buy food, says:。
The journalists then came to the box of masusu city, where the average cucumber price was $6. 9 (600 g) ($11. 5/kg); and fruit cucumber price was $7. 6 (400 g)。
“the prices of fruit and vegetables have been rising for several years, and now everyone is living in good conditions, and the money for eating a cucumber is not sad.” according to ms. Huang, who is buying food at supermarkets, the level of personal consumption is gradually increasing with socio-economic development, with basic dietary freedom and acceptable price increases。
Data from the “information release on important human commodity prices in kunming city” dated 29 july show that the average selling price of cucumber in the kunming market is about $4-12 per kilogram, a 50 per cent increase from the previous month。
Vegetable prices have been stable in recent years, but why has the price of cucumbers increased by about 50 per cent in just a few days? “recently, quinming has experienced heavy rainfall, which has affected the transport price of cucumbers and, in addition, reduced production of cucumbers at too high temperatures.” according to vegetable wholesalers, cucumbers are weak, prone to early decay and low yields if they are at high temperatures for a long period of time during their growing years and will be difficult to use for light co-operation。
As kunming is currently in the midst of the rainy season, climate-affected cucumber prices will not decline significantly in the short term. While the “basket” is of vital importance to the people, for the citizens it is more appropriate to guarantee quality on a reasonable basis。
