Once upon a time, i was deeply touched by " seeing " , which made me cry. This book has convinced me that the power of the lens and the word is so powerful that i, this tiny individual, can also play a tremendous role in the field of information. Therefore, i did not hesitate to choose the profession of journalism when filling out university volunteering。
However, the news world is as deep as a forest, and its greenness shines with emerald light and intriguing depth. When i first entered it, i thought i had easy access to it, but it became more complex than i thought when i explored it. Those words about “the useless theory of journalism”, “the breaking of the leg of learning journalism” and so on, have cast me in doubt on the future of the journalism profession。
From the point of view of instrumental rationality, it is true that new professions may not bring immediate benefits to ordinary people. After all, there is often a huge gap between the ideal and the reality of the news, and the emerging value for money does not prevail over other professions. Even more discouraging is the fact that after four years of university studies, many may not eventually choose to pursue journalism。
But even so, we cannot simply say that the journalism profession is worthless. After all, news is not just about the transmission of facts, but about the shaping of values, world views and life views. Those who choose traditional media, from the media or in other trades prove this。
To that end, we interviewed three graduate journalism sisters who wanted to explore the real value and employment prospects of journalism from their own experience. Their choices and experiences undoubtedly provide us with valuable references。
I'm in the news industry for the first time and i'm deeply influenced by my family. My aunt is a news anchor and my two brothers work on tv and radio. Since i was a child, i was deeply shocked by the image of my aunt on the television, especially the change in her voice when she presided over the news. This influence has taken root in my mind during my primary school, and i am committed to the journalism industry。
My undergraduates have chosen to conduct a major in broadcasting, and during the winter summer of high school, i will follow my aunt to their workplace to feel the atmosphere of journalism. During the university period, i also practiced on television, radio and newspapers to exercise my writing skills. Although i have a weak text base, through my long internship in the newspaper, i have been able to move from 800 words to 5,000 words of hard writing. After graduation in 2020, i successfully joined the newspaper and became a journalist. I am convinced that if i do not try and practice, then there may be one less person in this area to explore and report。
The daily work of journalists is multifaceted. First, daily interviews are one of the core tasks of journalists. As a reporter of the metropolitan news department, i must focus my coverage on people's lives, respond positively to the news hotline and keep track of the newscaster. Second, it's my job to go live. The live broadcast here is not a sale of goods, but a pure newscast. With the transformation of the print media, the presentation of news content has become more diversified and, in addition to the newspapers, the media have been integrated into the three-dimensional means of communication. As a result, i often need live coverage in depth. Finally, it is part of my work to engage in communication and cooperation with the outreach offices of the various units and enterprises. Many enterprises have advocacy needs, and i will consult with them on advocacy cooperation to achieve wider news dissemination。
The work of journalists is not as bright as the outside world can imagine. In practice, they work irregular hours, often on a 24-hour standby basis, throughout the year. Because of the special nature of their profession, journalists must be ready to leave for the interview site and face uncertain job assignments. For many, journalists were envied to be free to choose their place of work, but in fact, that freedom was based on endless busy work and responsibilities。
Many journalists spend even half of their time away from the field on daily trips to interview and film as journalists. The freedom they understood was to be able to move quickly in the event of an emergency, to plan selections in the early morning, to be often “doved” in their work, to be absent during family meetings, and to have to change the text with a computer while friends. Their writing space could be anywhere, and working hours for them would simply mean moving on。
However, despite the challenges and pressures of their work, it was the profession that gave them a sense of justice and an ideal of journalism. Many journalists hold on to this position because they know that if they do not do it, no one will do what they say about people's lives. Under numerous labels, journalists are still able to find their way of life and live their good lives。
After the shadows of the second world war had faded, i set out alone from the small towns of henan and embarked on a journey to shanghai. When i first arrived in shanghai, i stayed with six people in the qingh brigade, running between interviews every day. My first job was to be an editor of micro-intelligence public, and despite the fact that my monthly salary was only $6,000, less than a five-risk dollar, it set off my expectations of life。
Over time, however, i'm finding it difficult for me to get professional growth in that company. So, after a long balance, i chose to speak naked and quickly found my next job in just one month. Unfortunately, this new job has not allowed me to stay. Despite salary increases and impressive performance, the enormous work pressure has caused me to cry almost two to three days a week in the back seat of a taxi. So, as i was about to get better, i chose to leave again。
After a search, i finally found the current editorial work. The working environment is easy, weekends are free, work hours are free, no overtime work, and all is well. Compared to previous colleagues, the atmosphere is harmonious, with no plethora of leaders and aggressive colleagues. My salary has grown from $6,000 in the first place to $10,000 now. Now i arrive at the office every morning at 10 a. M. And leave work promptly at 6:30 p. M. On weekends, i'll meet my friends to taste food, take pictures and enjoy concerts。
As an editorial editor, my main responsibility is to participate in the planning and editing of the company's programmes. This includes the preparation of company announcements, promotional materials and promotional materials. Not only is this work closely related to my journalism profession, but it has also emerged in the context of the flourishing of the media. While the threshold for the new media industry is relatively low, building on this period of intense competition requires a certain level of paperwork, the ability to apply well-trained layout tools and a keen sense of smell in the new media。
I graduated in june 2020 and there are 50 students in our class, about 10 of whom are boys. Most of the boys chose to enter the state enterprise for advocacy work, while the girls were scattered in various fields, such as journalists, new media operations, teachers, human resources, studio operations, business entrepreneurship, postgraduate studies and civil service examinations. I myself chose a different path by becoming a lawyer, moving from a highly competitive profession to another, equally intense one。
In the fourth year of school, the epidemic had not broken out, and i was recruited on campus. Despite my lack of practical experience at the time, my brief experience as a small editor for school officers in the first year, and the fact that english is only four degrees past, with no other award-winning certificates or practical experience, and an introverted character, i have been brave enough to deliver positions. However, the impact of the epidemic has made the job market extremely difficult. In order to broaden the range of options, i began to try to apply for administrative, personnel, teaching positions in training institutions and for internship lawyers, and took the civil service, civil service and military examinations without success。
I was most impressed by the fact that i had put in an administrative position at wuhan insurance company, with a monthly salary of 5,000. At that time, the company hr had created a group of over 100 people who had graduated from well-known institutions such as the chinese teachers ' university, as well as elites who had returned home from abroad. In the face of such a competitive environment, i was under great pressure, but eventually decided to stick to the exam. Unfortunately, i was not able to make a successful landing. Eventually, i had to choose a small firm to start my internship。
With regard to the ideal of journalism, for four years at the university, i had a deep sense of journalism. I have benefited from courses taught by teachers in public opinion, video, history, social, literary and writing. We have learned not only the skills of writing, filming and editing, but also the political, economic, historical and cultural arts. However, it was only after graduation that i found that employment prospects in the news industry were not promising。
In the media sector, girls are used as boys and boys as cattle, which is enough to show the hard work of the news industry. By interacting with three of my sisters, i am more aware of the enormous employment pressure on graduates of journalism. With the proliferation of short videos, exclusive news has become scarce, and it is difficult for large media to match short videos issued by individuals in terms of timeliness. In addition, short videos on the web may have flown at the time press releases were reviewed, making it difficult to build on the lack of time-bound news reports。
From the perspective of “excavation processing” of news reports, it is also becoming increasingly difficult. In-depth analysis of “news” requires personal competence, rich experience and sufficient time for journalists. However, in an increasingly complex media environment, ordinary practitioners often do not have enough time to “deeply dig”, leading to serious problems of news homogenization。
In the current employment environment, journalism students need to actively broaden their horizons beyond textbook knowledge. In universities, theoretical knowledge of journalism is often disconnected from reality, while learning new media skills is only a small fraction. Therefore, while gaining knowledge of the traditional media, we should pay close attention to current media trends, such as the emergence of short videos and the availability of knowledge in various areas。
To better respond to the needs of different platforms, we should actively seek internships. Whether traditional media, such as newspapers, television stations, or new media, such as new media companies, internet companies, are worth trying. Through the internships, we can learn more about the links between interviews, writing, video-taping, and short video distribution, so as to find a way of our true interest。
Early planning for future directions is essential. While the scope of employment in the news industry is wide, the lack of clear targets may be confusing at graduation. Therefore, we need to define our own course of development during the university period, whether it be employment, study or examination. Internships and skills acquisition are key to the orientation of employment; project participation and the publication of papers are central to the orientation of studies; and early preparation is the basis for success in the orientation of examinations。
Everyone had different reasons for choosing news, but it was undeniable that it was not easy to find a way out of it in the current environment. However, as long as we are able to define our goals, practice them actively and work hard, we will certainly be able to find a career path of our own。
