The importance of human and social science lies in its ability to provide a society that diagnoses social illsHuman careAnd value rationality. Human beings are the measure of everything, but in a mathematical world, humanity gives way to the principles of calculable mathematics, the individual's subjectivity is digested, and human beings are reduced to the material of capital, the mere existence of performance appraisals, a fundamental condition for modern human beings。
With this in mind, i realize how liberal and unhelpful the “free and useless soul” is in an already hierarchical and commodified social context, which is not bound by the difficulties of the times, is not based on the principle of calculation of reason, and carries with it a deep human interest that serves the purpose of academic self-awareness, spiritual freedom, real life, and transcends the utility of the tools。
Looking back, at the time of the global recruitment of the journalism school of the university of joadan, i immediately signed up for an interview and had the privilege of being admitted to the institute of journalism, which was full of vision and joy, but where was the transition? At this critical juncture, president wong chi-hye has strongly encouraged me to “prepise my inner work”, a phrase that has been etched on my heart table and has not been waved。
More than two decades of hard work, as an interdisciplinary, cross-school teacher with no information and communication background, i also gained real growth in journalism schools. I passed on to students the accumulated international academic resources of such projects as visiting research for the yale east asia commission, harvard yanjing scholar, fulbright scholar, bbrg scholars at the university of berkeley, california, and the doctorals won the national fund for studies in studying studies, which went to the london school of political and economic sciences, oxford university, harvard university and other international institutions, and returned to their places of study, where they have been taught the shanghai university of transport. I have recommended undergraduate students for further studies in overseas universities who have long been at the forefront of the global teacher competition。
Professor vincent mosco, an international prominent communications political economist, professor graham murdock, and i have joined forces to host the graduate summer school on “new media and fair transmission of the global information society”, which has lasted 14 years and has nurtured nearly 2,000 young relatives and friends at home and abroad. Two consecutive workshops in 2017 and 2021 with professor rachel murphy of oxford university and professor shakuntala banaji of the london school of political and economic sciences, the harvard society of yanjing, “new media and gender studies”, continue to participate in our international teaching activities. In retrospect, all the introspects and accumulations have been made by the reliance on journalism schools, which enjoy great social prestige。
Everyone starts small. What do we do? Starting with classical reading, building knowledge systems. Reading is a journey of life, where people are nurtured by family upbringing, enter university halls and take responsibility for their own new journeys. I often advise students to put down their mobile phones for four hours a day, not to be easy as free labourers in digital media, to read and take notes, and to read more, it is natural that they understand the truth of life and directly shape their own minds, instead of superstition and blind authority, and that your academic life is less dominated by others。
It is not easy for a scholar to think intellectually, and for a scholar to govern to “stool for a decade, without a word”, and to “silently twirl the books, the lights of red beans,” the usual way of a scholar's life, as a general professor of journalism, who is fortunate to have chosen academia as a lifelong career, to cultivate academic fields in an environment where he or she has gained the highest freedom of the individual, to defend academic ideals and, while the natural age is growing, to keep life from being old and afraid。
New students of the institute of journalism, we should all be self-emergence and social and humanistic self-confident, free from the wind, committed to learning and moving forward。
