As proposed by the people's republic of china and algeria in 1999, the world intellectual property organization, at its thirty-fifth session, held in 2000, adopted a resolution by which it decided to designate 26 april of each year as world intellectual property day, starting in 2001. 26 april marks the date of the entry into force of the convention establishing the world intellectual property organization (wipo convention). The world intellectual property day was designed to create a worldwide awareness of respect for knowledge, science and protection of intellectual property rights, and a legal environment that encouraged intellectual innovation and protected intellectual property rights。
Publicity signs
The title of the world intellectual property day logo is “i”, “p”, “r”, which is the initial letter of the english expression of intellectual property, the three letters deformed into an active human shape, meaning “knowledge is people-centred, intellectual property is protected and the interests of rights-holders are safeguarded”. The logo includes the main letter, the date of the “advocacy week” and three parts of the name in chinese and english, reflecting the link to world intellectual property day。
