Rooted fields and science and technology complexes rose from local practice to national strategy
The science and technology complex is not an ordinary agro-technology service station or university field test site, but a new agro-scientific innovation and social services complex that has roots in rural areas, targeting farmers and the service industry. This model was born in hebei week 2009. It promotes the construction of small science and technology complexes, which are closely linked to the core objectives of “building a small house, activating an industry, bringing wealth to the people”, and adheres to industrial orientation, demand-drivenness and precision。
The fruit and vegetable industry produces efficiency gains. There are 27 science and technology complexes organized around traditional niches such as crouples, rice and watermelons, with continuous improvements in varieties, green growing and quality upgrading. The tomato science and technology college, together with shandong agricultural university, screens high-quality varieties, innovates green cultivation patterns, reduces fertilizer and increases production, irradiates more than 700 households in 16 villages and drives over 7,000 acres。
The black pork technology institute has addressed the challenges of the exploitation of animal and poultry waste resources, constructed a “culture-septic-organic fertilizer-planting” cycling system, innovative albino gold turtle larvae conversion techniques, and completed a 3,000 square metre “worm factory”. At the same time, high-quality black pig varieties are being cultivated and branded as "black pig from the source" are expected to be out of the field by over 30,000 in 2026, leading to a steady increase in revenues for more than 100 families in 30 villages。
In collaboration with the china agricultural institute, the small institute for digital seedling technology has broken down the technological bottlenecks of melon breeding, with more than 300 million seedlings per year, supplying 28 provinces of the country and successfully developing deep-processed products such as melon drying, fruit juice and wine. The chrysanthemum science and technology complex has built a database of strawberry varieties in shandong province, growing more than 15,000 acres in irradiated mountains, gansu and xinjiang kash, developing a series of products such as fruit juice, fruit wine, pollen and tea, and turning “small berries” into “big industries”。
Mechanisms allow technical services to be kept open and farmers to benefit continuously
The key to the sustainability and effectiveness of the s&t complex is institutional innovation and precision。
Specialist hotlines and field service stations have been set up in small homes to form a network of "expert sit-in visits + real-time on-line consultations + field site guidance". In 2025, more than 1,200 field coaching sessions and 380 technical training sessions were conducted, benefiting more than 50,000 farmers. On the one hand, more than 1,800 new professional farmers have been trained through technical training, field training and business incubators, leading to the establishment of more than 230 cooperatives and family farms; on the other hand, a practical platform has been provided to graduate students in higher education, which has brought together 76 people, 12 of whom have set up their own businesses。
The zone has established models such as small house + base + farmer, small house + cooperative + farmer, science & technology & co-founding alliance, which provides for resource sharing and technology sharing. In 2025, the zhuchu science and technology college undertook 34 provincial and municipal agricultural projects and conducted 31 joint studies on autonomous topics。
There has been a remarkable increase in the production of water-saving fertilizers at maize science complexes, serving more than 90 villages in 11 streets; assisted soil improvement at biofertilizer complexs to reduce fertilizer use; a research base for the transformation of institutions such as tomatoes, black pigs and raspberry, which receives more than 100,000 study visitors each year; and the development of new industrial conditions such as live broadcasting by electric operators and deep processing of agricultural products。
There is much to be done in the fields of science and technology. It is using the science and technology complex as a vehicle for writing papers on the ground, delivering technology to farmers, placing increased revenue in the pockets of the population and injecting sustained energy into the overall revitalization of the countryside。
