“at the present time, it is up to the human being to boost the overall revitalization of the countryside, maintain food security, upgrade the agro-industry and raise farmers' incomes.” as a leader of the “new farmers” who have been in the field for almost two decades, the national people's congress (npc) representative and director-general of the fulfilled wheat growing cooperative (fwca) in lian yu county, wei dedong, shared his thoughts and proposals on accelerating practical rural skills development and the overall revitalization of rural areas, taking into account his own experience in deep farming。
From 2008 when 320 acres of land were displaced on the road to growing food on a scale, now the cooperative is moving over 2,000 acres of land, more than 50,000 acres of trust, and wei dedong has spent almost 20 years holding itself from being a regular food grower to a “country-wide model of labor” for the country's top ten farmers and, more importantly, a “show expert” in the countryside. This experience, which has taken root in agriculture, has given him the most profound appreciation of the importance of rural practical talent。
“when i first started, the biggest problem was the lack of skills and the lack of talent. It was all old experience to grow food at that time, and then i took the initiative to connect agricultural schools and bring experts into the fields to guide us, so i slowly found the path of scientific food production.” wei detung said that his own growth was a vivid microcosm of the development of practical rural talent. He informed journalists that in recent years, with the advancement of capacity-building for the production of “tons of semi-food” in texas, cooperatives have been able to effectively boost their food production by integrating and promoting high-yield technologies such as soil formula fertilization and water fertilization. And all of this can't be sustained without talent。
“a growing number of young people are now willing to return to their homes to start their own businesses, but there are still a number of gaps in building a productive rural workforce.” in conjunction with its own research, wei dedong found that the current fragmentation of training resources and the disconnect between content and industry needs in rural practical skills development, “like the lack of emphasis on the theory of training alone, which farmers do not understand or use, are constraints to the effectiveness of talent development”
In wei dedong's view, rural practicals, as an important component of the rural workforce, are the main sources of leadership in rural industries, rural governance and agricultural creativity, providing important support for the overall renewal of villages. How can the challenge of rural practical skills development be solved and the momentum given to the overall revitalization of rural areas be sustained? Wei dedong made targeted proposals to develop a whole chain culture model for “choice, breeding, use, management and clothing”。
