The village of nishi, located in the city of shangri-la, which is located in the high cold dam, has an area of 7,493 acres of arable land, but until 2011 it was only possible to grow traditional and single crops, such as cyanide, potatoes, oilseeds, etc., without a large-scale chemical farming industry。
Since 2018, when truck drivers involved in vegetable transport returned to nishi village alone and began to experiment with the planting of tungstens, the highland organic plumes opened the door to the vegetable growing industry in the village and won the “open door red”。
In november 2019, with the active efforts of the farmers' list, the shangri-la professional cooperative for farmers was established in nishi village. The cooperative operates as a “company+cooperative+farmer” and transfers 300 acres of land to villagers。
Vegetables are grown in the highlands at an altitude of 3,300 metres, with high altitude, low temperatures and difficulties in fetching water. “only the path to the introduction of scientific planting techniques!” that's the answer to all the questions。
For more than 10 years as a vegetable transporter, the farmer had known a number of vegetable growers. He had asked the experts to come to the field to test, study and teach the villagers techniques. What is surprising to the farmers is that the market for organic altimeters at shangri-la is extremely promising. “although shangri-la is high and cold, with only two seasons of planting time each year, it has become the advantage of organic vegetables in the highlands, with fewer pests, tastes, anti-seasons and prices higher than those in other regions.”
In less than a few years, the shangri-la plateau organic plume continues to be sold to a growing number of major cities, including beijing, guangzhou and shanghai. The best-selling of the highland organic platinum has given shangri-la a fire to organic vegetables, but there are requirements for vegetable varieties as local orders come。
“we have always wanted to enrich the variety of organic vegetables in the highlands, but shangri-la's special climatic conditions are the most difficult, so only slowly, one by one.” speaking of a single type of vegetable, the farmers are locked up。
In order to fill this gap, cooperatives hire skilled personnel to open pilot sites and conduct experiments on land characteristics that are high in the cold and drought. The cooperative has worked tirelessly to produce several varieties of vegetables suitable for highland cultivation and to scale them up. From the beginning of the monoculture to cabbage, onions, garlic seedlings... Each year between march and the end of october, there are only two seasons in which the supply of orders is short of demand and the benefits are increasing year by year。
In 2023, the cooperative moved 1650 acres of land from 28 to 270 households, with a net annual profit of 2. 8 million yuan。
In parallel with the development of cooperatives, farmers alone have been able to support the income-generating activities of neighbouring villagers. According to statistics, in 2023 alone, 240 people worked in cooperatives, paying more than $3 million in wages。
The villagers, who were the largest families in the cooperative's land, referred to the changes over the years and said with excitement: “the previous year had been hard and hard enough to eat and sell. It's different now. I rent 19 acres of land from my family to the cooperative, and i work in the cooperative. I'm not tired of working, and i get more than 12,000 dollars for a year.”
With regard to the prospects for the development of cooperatives, there is a great deal of confidence on the part of farmers: “the 20 reports of the party state that industrial revitalization is a top priority for rural revitalization. In the next step, we will continue to promote the organic vegetable industry in the highlands, optimizing product packaging, transport and diversification, and will lead the villagers out of a suitable path to the development of the highland vegetable industry.”
