Hospitals are a special setting for the concentration of pathogens. Here, a qualified cleaning officer not only keeps the environment clean, but also, more importantly, cuts out transmission routes and protects patients, families and medical personnel. A standardized disinfection and a timely clean-up of contaminants may avoid a cross-infection event。
In order to improve the overall level of prevention and control of infection in hospitals, in recent days, i have organized a special training for school-wide cleaners in the sensory and general services sections. The training received a positive response and collaborative engagement from property companies, and the field learning atmosphere was strong。
Hospitalization training
The training focused on five aspects of the prevention and control of infections in hospitals:
I. Management of wards
(c) to define clean areas, semi-polluted areas and contaminated areas and strictly follow the clean-up sequence of “clean areas, semi-polluted areas” in order to avoid cross-pollution。
Ii. Skills and care for cleaning
These include the daily wet cleaning principle, the regulated disposal process for contaminants (blood, vomiting, etc.), personal protective requirements, the use of zoning markers for cleaning tools, the “first five after” points for hand hygiene, the current mix of chlorinators and concentration tests。
Iii. Medical waste collection and disposal
It is emphasized that medical waste is strictly prohibited from being mixed into domestic waste, that the principle of “three non-requirement” (non-mixing, non-exit, non-violation) is strictly applied, and that methods of packing and sealing are well developed。
Iv. Common error zones and corrections
The correct approach is clear in response to common errors such as “one rag, many beds”, “trawl, less sub-region”, “sorture” and “mittens instead of handwashing”, “spam bags without closure”。
V. Career literacy and communication
The cleaning staff is required to have an active service awareness (timely clean-up of stains, placement of slide-proof warning signs), respect the privacy of the patient, remain silent and report promptly on equipment failures or patient anomalies。
The chief of the general services section stated that “hospital cleaning is different from cleaning in common premises and directly relates to the safety of patients and the quality of medical care. Every cleaning officer is an integral part of the hospital infection control system. The work of the cleaners, though ordinary, is of great significance. Every time carefully wiped out, disciplined, it was respect for and protection of life. It is hoped that through this system training, every cleaning officer will become a solid force in the prevention and control of infection in hospitals, responsible for himself, for the patient and for the safety of the health-care environment as a whole.”
This training has further strengthened the awareness and operational norms of the institution-wide cleaners and provided a solid foundation for the construction of the first line of protection against infection in hospitals.
