The new edition of the capital library's “beijing memory” — the beijing platform for historical and cultural knowledge — was officially launched to provide a new paradigm for intellectual services for academic research, mass communication and memory transfer on “urban memory”。
It is known that the beijing memory site was established in 2003, when internet technology was in its initial stages of application in the area of library access in the country, and that since its creation, it had undertaken a number of pioneering work in the national library community and had been upgraded in 2017 in keeping with the needs of its readers. After decades of building up, this is once again a comprehensive adaptation of the beijing platform for historical and cultural knowledge, which brings about a whole chain of experiences from bottom-up data to the front end. It will provide a more professional and efficient knowledge service to a wider audience with a broader vision, better quality of resources, stronger functionality and a more friendly interface, taking into account a wide audience and expert scholars。
The platform's core language is the unique resource of the local literature that the library of the capital has accumulated for almost 100 years. The platform system integrates approximately 20,000 local literature, 14 feature topics and more than 2900 audio articles, with a total of 110,000 pages of fine tabulation data and 4670 minutes of video subtitles。
It is worth mentioning that the platform has carried out full-text recognition, metadata writing and tabulation of nearly 3,500 historical expansions and nearly 800 valuable literature, such as dramas, supporting accurate retrieval of word and word levels in the full text, and lowering the professional threshold for public use of resources. Using time- and space-based gis, it has matched 17 historical maps of beijing with modern geo-coordinates, matching each location with the only latitude coordinates, thereby clearly revealing the ancient changes in urban space and effectively increasing the efficiency of the use of such valuable resources。
At the same time, the platform, through its large-scale knowledge mapping and physical extraction efforts, using technical tools such as semantic linkages and time and space mapping, has broken down barriers between different resources, forming structured time and space data and ultimately creating knowledge networks that reveal the connections between individuals, locations, events, organizational bodies, officials, works, etc., and has refined the detail of resource descriptions from the documentation level to the content level, leading to cross-bibliography, cross-typologies, inter-generational linkages and smart leaps, laying the foundation for the platform's follow-up knowledge mining, large model training and wider resource linkages。
The platform has restructured its resources in a systematic manner and knowledge, structured a two-entry service, “open memory” and “beijing literature” at the end of the web page, with four modules, “impression beijing”, “memorial map”, “humanities theme”, and “image resources”, “image resources”, “video resources”, “special literature”, “victoral resources”, which connects a wide variety of data types, such as books, newspapers, graphics, pictures, audio and video, thus creating a logical framework and resource system that is consistent with the characteristics of urban memory and constructing a digital base for urban memory, which is rich in size, type and structure。
