On 29 november, tocto county — a place that has a history of grape cultivation for more than 200 years and has been dubbed “the country of grapes” — ushered in an important moment. The official inauguration of the grapes scientist (expert) workstation here marks a new stage in the development of the grape industry in the county。
Tocto county now houses more than 5,200 acres of fresh grape cultivation, which represents 74. 2 per cent of the city's total field grape cultivation, yielding approximately 1040,000 tons annually and generating a high value of 124 million yuan. However, grape cultivation in tocto county also faces monoculture and excessive market concentration leading to instability in farm household incomes。
In order to solve this problem effectively, the workstation introduced grape breeders such as professor wang shiping of shanghai transport university, who received the second prize from the national prize for the advancement of science and technology. Wang shiping stated that the workstation would do its utmost to create a comprehensive grape-growing solution for local growers. Through the introduction and selection of new varieties of grapes that are more adapted to local climate and soil conditions, the integration of scientific soil management, sound frame design, effective pest control measures and accurate irrigation fertilization techniques, the overall improvement of the quality and production of grapes leads to the enrichment of local farmers. In addition, the workstation will actively promote the further integration of the grape cultivation + rural tourism, aimed at achieving a harmonious and comprehensive harvest of economic, social and environmental benefits。
To date, our city has focused on six major industrial clusters, strategic and emerging industries, and the direction of future industries, led by the real needs of enterprises and long-term plans for industrial development, and based on a cooperative project of research and research in trust sciences, which has succeeded in documenting 22 workstations, attracting 75 top technologists from within and outside the region, including one member of the chinese academy of sciences, two candidates for the two faculties of science, one member of the foreign academy, three members of the national kitchen talent and one chief scientist of the national potato technology system。
