According to a comprehensive report from the chinese youth newspaper, in recent years the word “carbon face” has been frequently discussed on social platforms. There are anchors squeezing their cheeks, claiming: “this is the food they eat every day; there are also people who tan the jawlines that stop carbon water and “have finally escaped the cheap feeling”; there are even internet users who share their hands and faces with their mother and are ridiculed by their colleagues as saying, “this is to be passed on to the next generation”。

Today, on social platforms, the subject of “carbon face” is very hot. Such aggressive rhetoric is contrary to common sense and is an unjustifiable marketing stunt。

Carbon water, which is the core energy essential to the human body, accounts for between 50 and 60 per cent of daily energy intake by dietary standards and is fundamental to maintaining the functioning of the body. Stigmatizing the usual staple food is itself a one-sided conversation of the end. In fact, the word “carbon-water face” has never been used in the world, except for the “false concept” of traffic, which has been created by a coalition of internet-based bloggers and businessmen, without any medical or nutritional basis。

At the scientific level, the five faces are determined by the genetic bones, and the state of color is affected by dysentery, endocrinic effects and has nothing to do with normal diet. It was wrong to assume that carbon water was bad for the face, but that it was a high salt diet, that it stayed up late and that it was caused by stress. The media, in part, deliberately amplified the malfeasance of condensation by over-ingestion of refined carbon water and created a food panic, thereby misleading the public to stop the staple food blindly。

Behind the prevalence of the “carbon-water face” discourse is a very profitable marketing chain. In order to market substitute foods, sugar-resistant products, fat-cutting courses and light food packages, businesses deliberately create food “inners” and impose good and bad standards: the usual staple foods are lazy, undisciplined, carbon-controlled sugars, and the pursuit of light foods are highly sophisticated and disciplined。

As the platform moves on to the subject, the theory of “carbon water face” continues to magnify the appearance of anxiety, and businesses tend to squeeze public emotions for consumption. As a result, many people are trapped in internal consumption, blindly adjusting their diets, thus creating a complete chain of interests in creating, spreading and harvesting anxiety。

Such statements are more deeply flawed in linking appearances to class. It binds daily diets and individual maintenance, social status, equates the eating of staple foods with a mediocre laziness, and labels the circular state with tacky labels. What is more, it advocates a class by diet and a way of life that promotes carbon as the so-called “upstream elite option”。

There is no shortage of diets, and health standards vary from one person to another, judging by merit in eating, which is contrary to scientific commons, as well as to the concepts of social inclusion and diversity of life。

The removal of “carbon-water faces” from malicious marketing requires multiple strengths and original sources. The platform should fulfil its responsibility to curb the spread of stigmatized content, and algorithms should not become a tool for harvesting anxiety. Competent departments need to strengthen their supervision and impose legal penalties on businesses that misrepresent and mislead consumers。

More importantly, the public needs to develop the concept of scientific health and rational aesthetics: the so-called “carbon-water face”, which is nonsense and has to be ignored。
