Twelve steps to tell you how to set targets
Targets are important steps towards individual growth and achievement. The following is a detailed 12-step guide to help you effectively set and achieve your goals。
Approach 1: develop deliverables
To determine your life goals
Ask yourself what life you want. This includes what you want to achieve today, this year and in your lifetime。
Think about what you want in 10, 15 or 20 years from now。
For example, career goals may be to open up their careers, fitness goals may be to make their bodies better and personal goals may be to form a family。
Breaking big targets into smaller, more specific targets
Consider the areas of your life, such as occupation, finances, family, education or health, where you want to change or feel that you will develop。
Set specific targets for each area and consider how to achieve them within five years。
For example, for the larger goal of “i want to be strong, i want to eat healthier” and “i want to run a marathon”。
Write short-term targets
Set clear objectives for what you are going to do now and give yourself a reasonable time frame (short-term target not exceeding one year)。
Writing these short-term goals will make them harder to ignore and make you more accountable to them。
For example, your first target may be to eat more vegetables and run five kilometres。
Make your goal smaller and lead you to a bigger goal
When setting the target, make it clear why you set it for yourself and what it will bring you when it's done。
By asking yourself whether it is worth it, whether it is the right time, whether it is your need, etc., to help you better understand the goals。
Regularly adjust your goals
Allow yourself the flexibility to adjust objectives to changing circumstances and needs。
Periodically assess whether your small goals have been accomplished according to your time and whether they have led you on the path to achieving the larger goals of life。
Approach 2: practically effective target strategies
Clear your target
When setting small targets, ensure that they can answer specific questions: who, what, where, when, why。
For each specific goal you set, ask yourself why it is a goal and how it helps to achieve your life goal。
Creating measurable goals
Goals should be quantifiable in order to track progress。
For example, “run five kilometres” is a measurable goal and you know exactly what you have done。
The truth
An honest assessment of your situation and identification of what is realistic。
Suppose you have everything you need (such as skills, resources, time, knowledge) to judge which goals are achievable。
Set priority
It is crucial to determine which objectives are more important or urgent。
If you have too many goals, you will be overwhelmed and less likely to complete them。
Follow your progress
Process recording is a good way to track personal and professional progress。
Checking yourself and acknowledging that progress towards a certain goal is key to maintaining motivation。
Evaluate your goal
When you reach your goal, celebrate and evaluate the whole process。
Consider whether you have enough time, energy, skills or goals to justify。
Stay on target
Once you reach the goal, even the main goal of life, you want to continue to grow and set new goals for yourself。
After completing the marathon, for example, you can consider running again, increasing time, trying other movements or setting new personal challenges。
