Recently, in 2026, a double “billion” labour and skills competition was launched at the lake lake international airport in hokkai. The launch ceremony was attended by liu xuerong, deputy director of the standing committee of the hubei people's congress and president of the provincial general trade union。
The competition, which focused on the theme of “fifty-five-five” competitions, focused on building the delivery points, followed closely the decision-making deployment of the hubei provincial council and the provincial government to build the seven strategic points, continued to deepen the five major projects of “strategic union services” and fully implemented the “industrial multiplication-worker competition” initiative, supported by the development of 100 priority projects, the development of thousands of priority enterprises, and the networking of thousands of priority industrial chains, with a view to maximizing the radiation drive of leading projects, continuously expanding the branding effect of competitions, and working to match labour and skills competitions with efforts to promote quality development。
This year, there were three main types of pilot labour competition, including the organization and implementation of 100 priority engineering leading labour competitions; the creation of 20 priority industrial clusters (industrial chain) labour competitions involving more than 10,000 enterprises; and the full coverage of 1,000 priority enterprise labour competitions。
The skills competition project will be precise in the areas of digital economy, high-end equipment manufacturing, green environment and new employment patterns, and will organize five provincial-level competitions for manual intelligence trainers, machine-controlled bed repair and repair workers, electronics fittings, industrial wastewater treatments, and network distribution workers. At the same time, a series of high-level pole competitions have been set up around 10 key industries, such as automobile manufacturing, modernization and aerospace, which have led to the training of a large number of workers and the promotion of key industrial chains throughout the province。
In recent years, the hubei general trade union has been working to create a province-wide brand of two million jobs and skills competitions, and to set up a sound system for managing a “declaration-check-implementation-evaluation” competition. In 2025, the competition attracted the participation of about 100,000 enterprises, 9 million workers and a large pool of skilled personnel。
At the launch ceremony, liu xue-yun stated that trade unions at all levels throughout the province need to leverage the scientific and technological innovation competition, promote the deep integration of competitions with the “crawling” technology and mass innovation activities, and fully unleash the creative potential of workers. With competition as a vehicle, the implementation of actions to upgrade the skills of industrial workers and to facilitate the development of industrial workers should be fully promoted。
