The teacher who gave the girls a sanitary towel, yang feifan. Video source: the interviewee (00:26) saw a hot search of his own video distribution of sanitary towels to students. Yang feifan was surprised, but was happy, “i think that public attention to the physical and mental health of children in poor areas is increasing.”

Yang feifan gave the students a phythmics course and brought them together to do photos of water-absorption experiments. The interviewee was a 33-year-old teacher at yang fei, who was a teacher at the primary school in dongshan village, guangxi bama county, for the eighth year of his teaching. On 15 december, a video of yang feifan distributing sanitary towels to girls was distributed on social media platforms and attracted the attention of netizens. As a male teacher, he distributed sanitary towels to female students and let them not be shy, and gave him the praise of many netizens, “i think that it is normal for me to send a sanitary towel directly to female students, and i usually give them physics classes, which are poor but not `poor'. Turning to this teacher, mr. Kong of the long hole elementary school, he said that yang feifan was close to people and taught students to live and be human, “he mainly taught children some life skills that we cannot teach.”
Unlike other teaching teachers, yang feifan has taught more extensive courses, including hairdressing, cooking, etc。
Yang feifan claims that these courses are taught because of his unique growth experience. Yang feifan was also a child left behind and eventually attended university with the financial support of a caring person and successfully completed his studies. “when parents were not around, i understood that many of the knowledge and problems of life could not be learned in the classroom, and that what children really needed to grow up to stay behind, so i wanted to teach them.”
In the eight years of teaching in bamá county, yang feifan stated that there had been a change in the focus on children in poor areas, “for example, is it possible for children in poor areas to be fed and warm? Now you're looking at the psychological growth of children, such as the spread of sexual knowledge.” after eight years of teaching and research, yang feifan also has his own educational philosophy。

"men need to know about women's health."
News: where are all the items you distribute, such as sanitary towels
Yang feifan: the daily distribution of daily supplies comes mainly from donations from caring people and from myself and other teachers. We usually distribute them by dormitory, as much as we can every week, in case the children don't have enough。
News: when distributing sanitary towels, will you give children information about physical hygiene
Yang feifan: yes. I give them physiology classes every semester, usually in two or three sections in a semester, and the curriculum is broken down according to age, such as in the first and second and third grades, so that they can understand the difference between the biological structure of male and female students and the use of sanitary materials in the fourth and sixth grades. There are also children of older age who are covered by the curriculum in terms of sexual safety and protection。
News: what was your original purpose in teaching physical hygiene
Yang feifan: my intention was to develop children in all their aspects, and to improve their understanding of men and women and to develop their gender awareness by giving them knowledge of their biological health。
News: how did you teach physical hygiene
Yang feifan: my curriculum is bold, and all courses involve boys and girls. In my view, it is important for men to know about women's health, since most men and women form families, so there is no need to cover up women's physical health, and boys should be involved。
I don't want them to be rational in the course, and i've designed every class to be fun, like having kids pour water on a sanitary towel and see how it sucks. Or unmask the sanitary towels so that they can identify the quality of the material, see if it's contaminated, dyed or smelly? This way, the classroom becomes fun and fun, and the lessons go deep。
News: how did the children react by teaching in this way
Yang feifan: at first we were shy and even laughing. But when you link that knowledge to their lives, they will soon accept it. For example, tell the boys that if we don't pay attention to the quality of the sanitary towels now, what happens when they start a family and become a father, but what happens to their next generation because their mothers used the poor sanitary towels, their bodies were contaminated and sick? Such an approach does not make them feel that they have nothing to do with it, but that it is closely related to the lives of each of them, so that they can naturally draw attention to it and learn more openly about their physical health。
News: what are the new plans for future education in physical health
Yang feifan: in the future, i intend to cover more aspects of the use of sanitary materials, such as bras, even knowledge of contraceptives, condoms, etc. It also extends to sexual abuse, self-protection, by showing them videos and news stories, so that they know which parts of privacy cannot be touched, what sexual abuse is, how to prevent sexual abuse, etc。
"i want to help the children left behind learn to be happy."
News: what is your philosophy of education
Yang feifan: first, i want children to know what their ultimate purpose is to learn, and i think to learn to pursue happiness. But happiness is abstract, a state of good life. So i concretized it, and i designed it into a curriculum, and the name was happiness. I set up seven scenarios, including home, school, society, the workplace, nature, the virtual world of the internet, the inner world, and then designed seven courses and practical activities based on the seven scenes to enable them to learn their skills. For example, the physio-sanitary classes mentioned earlier are in the context of family education。
I have also done research on the sequencing of the course, producing a pyramid diagram. The safety of life at the bottom of the pyramid is fundamental, and i think children need to be safe first, and i will teach them the defence of natural disasters, the protection of their physical integrity, etc. It is only when life is safe and secure that other aspects, such as physical and mental health, emotional harmony, development of hobby, etc., can be ensured, and finally learn to give and reach a state of happiness。
News: how long did it take you to study the system
Yang feifan: i have been studying the living conditions of children left behind in the countryside since 2013 and, in addition to my previous work in the city's kindergartens, i have been exposed to a wide range of children from kindergarten to university. In addition to teaching them at school, i have winter camp camps, school supermarkets, study tours and so on. These activities were funded by pro bono organizations in previous years, but this year i organized a winter camp at my own expense because of the epidemic and because of the funding constraints of pro bono organizations。
News: what is your life like
Yang feifan: i've done all kinds of casual work, sales, insurance, guided tours, physiotherapists, trainers, etc., because i've had no pay for long periods of first-line teaching, but i need to live. Now i'm a singer, and i'm going to take on some performances, so it's easy and easy to teach。
News: what are you going to do next
Yang feifan: i expect the first-line teaching cycle to be ten years and now two years. Two years later, some of the first-line teaching tasks, like course teaching, will be done by some of my college graduates, and i'll give them advice. I would then like to establish a free teaching base, to integrate the lessons i have learned over the years and to use the summer holidays to provide diversified educational resources for children in poor areas, and i hope that my years of teaching experience and cases will provide some reference for future teaching staff。
