How to translate these expectations and demands into internal morality and practice them in life is not only a powerful way for the nation, but also for intellectuals to advance themselves. Intellectuals cannot become “knowers”, and intellectuals of the new age need a new age。
In the afternoon of 4 march 2017, the general secretary of xi visited the prc, the agro-industrial party and the members of the 93rd academy to make an important statement on the full role of intellectuals. He noted that the vast majority of our intellectuals were the elites of society, the pillars of the state, the pride of the people and the precious wealth of the state. The great cause has determined that we need more knowledge and intellectuals and more intellectuals to contribute to the country's prosperity, national renewal and well-being. The general secretary of xi hopes that intellectuals will self-fulfill the core values of socialism and actively engage in innovative development practices. In the past few days, important statements by the general secretary of xi have generated a lively response in the intellectual and social spheres. What kind of spirit should intellectuals of the new age have? I was on the scene, as a member of the democratic party political association, while listening and thinking。
I. The intellectuals need to be critical, and more so to build
It has been argued that intellectuals are the conscience of society, and that intellectuals ' vocation is to criticize, to discover and to criticize the irrationality of society. Indeed, intellectuals need critical spirit, which is essentially a spirit of truth. As secretary-general xi has said, our intellectuals have traditionally had a strong family background, a strong sense of social responsibility and moral and courageous commitment. It is this sense of love and responsibility that inspires intellectual criticism。
But life is complex, truth is stereotypic, and criticism is not mere denial. Intellectuals should reflect adequately on criticism when it comes to criticism. The world had never been perfect, and china was still a developing country in transition. Criticism, which is of little value for the advancement of society, and which can easily slide to the abyss of vanity, which is criticized to attract the eye, goes further than truth。
Once upon a time, i was also a critic. In the early 1990s, i also strongly criticized chinese education and complained about its “disease”. At the end of 1997, i was transferred from the director of the university of suzhou to the deputy mayor of suzhou. It became clear to me that the issue of education in china would not be helped by criticism. If the intellectuals simply join in a big symphony of criticism rather than actively contribute, then criticism can only be criticism, and reality will never be ideal. Since then, i have begun to think systematically about real-life education, and in suzhou, i have launched a programme for the rehabilitation of relatively weak schools, an action plan for teachers, etc., and have taken the lead in making nine years of compulsory education universal throughout the country. These constructive initiatives have considerably changed the quality of education in the region, changed the spirituality of teachers and inspired my desire for further input。

Ii. Intellectuals need ideas and more action
Intellectuals are independent thinkers, professional systems and thinkers. But thinking alone is not enough。
In china's ancient history, "led" “decent” “death” “triple immortality” was used to say that intellectuals needed to combine morality, action and thought. To this day, with the progress of the times, moral self-improvement and even breakthroughs must be accomplished in the common march of action and ideas. Traditionally, respected intellectuals have often been united. For example, mr. Tatsu, a modern educator active in the common arts。
What is most lacking among some chinese intellectuals now is the spirit of unity. Too many people now close their doors to write, talk and research, too many people fly around the world and learn only for the sorghum, and too few people live in their roots and go into their fields. At the end of the last century, there was an occasional opportunity for me to move from thinker to actor in the field. I realized at the time that i had written a lot of books, but i didn't really go into education, let alone influence and change the lives of our teachers! So i decided to change the way i spoke, to change the way i acted, to really approach teachers, to go into the first line of education and to try to find a new path for education in china. In september 2002, the first new school of experiments in education officially sailed at the quintam top experiment school in suzhou. This model has now been implemented in more than 3,000 schools in the autonomous regions of 29 provinces and municipalities of the country. All of this comes from the power of thought and action, as we have always devoted ourselves to the study of the education front, to the development of intellectual theory, operational skills and to the return to the same line of action, which is constantly being enriched。

Iii. Intellectuals need to be inherited and more innovative

As secretary-general xi said, the human constraints of key core technologies have not fundamentally changed。
For countries, only innovation can bend over. The intellectuals should be actively engaged in the development of innovation, both by confronting the challenges and by targeting the world's technological frontier, and by leveraging resources to create unique innovation advantages as soon as possible. For individuals, innovation is the best way for intellectuals to use their talents. The most important life of intellectuals is spiritual life. Innovation is creation. It is the spiritual life of the intellectuals that is strong, even beyond material life. Innovation is the destiny of intellectuals. Innovation is the best legacy。
