From 23 to 27 june, the university of jilin hosted the 20th international landmine conference in changchun. The meeting was attended by 64 delegates from 21 countries and regions and by more than 300 scientists and engineers。
The international mine targeting conference, which has been held every two years since 1986, is now 40 years old and is the most important international conference in the field of mine detection。

At the opening ceremony, the vice-chancellor of the university of jilin delivered a message of warm welcome to the leaders and experts who came to the meeting and looked forward to the identification of important scientific and technical challenges that needed to be addressed through exchanges and discussions, and to a new and greater contribution to sustainable development through cooperation to advance the theory and technology of mine detection。
Mine detection is a geophysical method of detecting physical properties and distribution patterns within the medium using antenna launching and receiving high-frequency electromagnetic waves. Because of the high accuracy, efficiency and non-destructive characteristics of mine detection, the main areas currently used are geotechnical surveying, engineering quality testing, architecture testing, archaeology, mineral surveying, disaster geological investigation, planetary exploration and military target detection. The mine detection team of the university of jilin, supported by projects such as the national 863 plan, the priority research and development programme and the natural science foundation, carried out in-depth studies in a number of theoretical, methodological and technical areas, with notable results。

The president of the conference, professor feng zheng, of the faculty of earth exploration sciences and technology of jilin university, has an outstanding international reputation for the results of his “totally polarized mine detection” study in this field, which has been successfully applied to our skyquestion one project and will be applied to skyquestion ii, among others。
The university of delft, the netherlands, the university of strasbourg, france, the university of edinburgh, the university of edinburgh, the university of aberdeen, the university of northeast japan, the national university of tomsk, the russian federation, the hong kong polytechnic university, the university of macao, the university of beijing, the beijing university of technology, the harbin industrial university, the university of china, the university of defence science and technology, the university of toji, the university of wuhan, the university of jilin, the national space agency of nigeria, the national astronomy observatory of china, the academy of sciences institute for the innovation of space-based information and innovation of china, the geological and geophysical institute of the chinese academy of sciences, the twenty-second institute of china electronic science and technology corporation, the united states gssi corporation, the canadian company geolitix, etc., participated in the meeting to showcase recent developments in scientific research and the application of its objectives。

The five-day session consisted of 159 excellent reports and two excellent short courses. Two short courses, by anto, a well-known mine detection theoretical scientist from englandNis gianninopoulos and jan francoke, a well-known mine detection application scientist from canada, have taught the theory and techniques of numerical simulation and data analysis of mine detection, which will provide a solid foundation for the development of young mine detection scientists worldwide. Through the congress, teams such as the university of mines of china (beijing), peng soo-ping, professor of sato, north-east university of japan, professor evert slob, professor sebastien lambot of delft university, belgium, and the institute of space-space information and innovation research of the chinese academy of sciences and research fellows in guang guang, reported on recent developments in mars/lunar exploration, progress in mine detection by drones, progress in detecting underground structures using signals such as navigational communications satellites, and progress in high-precision rapid detection equipment and technology for urban tunnel bridges. In addition, the researcher at the academy of sciences of china, the researcher at the institute of air-sky innovation, li yugyan, reported on the latest progress of the successful implementation of the “tao 6” project in our country, and the team at the chinese academy of space technology reported on progress in the “day ask 2” project。
The successful organization of this meeting will contribute to the development of worldwide mine detection techniques and their applications in areas such as urban underground space exploration, planetary exploration, raise the profile of our mine detection field in the world, provide strong technical support for the monitoring of urban road collapses and the safe use of black land in jilin province, and further enhance the influence of jilin university in the international mine detection field.
