Saga county is situated in the highlands, with a cold climate and a short period of frost, with vegetable production permanently constrained by natural conditions and a large local supply gap. In the daily countryside, technical staff of the county agricultural integration centres found that some greenhouses were poorly managed, poorly grown, with low yields and single varieties. In order to solve the problems of vegetable cultivation precisely, the technical staff of the county agricultural integration centre set up themselves a “crop-out team”, using the village shed of gapo, in the town of gagara, as a “practical classroom”, which created a combination of practical efforts and technology。
After working on fridays, technicians entered the sheds with seeds and farm tools to screen cold-resistant radish, cabbage, cabbage and green peppers in combination with the climatic characteristics of the plateau. From the basics of fertilizing the whole area to the key processes of nursery care, technicians are involved throughout the whole process, and neighbouring farmers are invited to study, technicians are given hand-hand hands to demonstrate operational techniques, practical techniques such as pest control and water-saving irrigation are taught on site to ensure that farmers are “learning and doing what they do”. In doing so, they not only carefully document planting data to improve planting programmes in the appropriate highlands, but also learn to advance in the field and achieve a two-way ability to export technology and upgrade itself。
When the vegetable sheds are productive, the technicians start distributing the first time, and tourists in the service sector send fresh vegetables to alleviate the inconvenience of the journey; the cleaning staff on the streets are given bags full of green vegetables to thank them for their efforts to preserve the urban environment; and visits are made to the families of the poor villagers in the surrounding areas to help with the problem of “buying vegetables” in some families on a demand-driven basis。
In addition to the dynamic practice of “learning to use and serve the population” by the technical staff of the ministry of agriculture and social affairs, the campaign has been accompanied by a warm smile of the people by the hard work of “working hours”。
