Beyond psychological warfare
The basic logic of the contemporary battlefield is undergoing a profound transformation. This is not just the evolution of tactics or the application of emerging technologies. Of course, it is not new to use technology in military missions to influence the “thinking” of opponents. Traditional information warfare and psychological warfare have sought to shape perceptions and influence decision-making. Secondly, the force must develop defensive and offensive cognitive capabilities. Defensive capabilities involve resilience to protect people and populations from cognitive manipulation and to ensure the integrity of decision-making processes. An offensive capability involves the development and application of capabilities that affect the perception of the counterparty in a manner supportive of strategic objectives。
Thirdly, any truly such work requires interdisciplinary expertise. Cognitive warfare involves the intersection of neuroscience, psychology, data science, artificial intelligence/network technology and military strategic planning and operational execution. Effective participation in the area of awareness requires collaboration in these areas, as well as careful integration of emerging technologies and approaches (e. G., quantum sensing and computing; land-based and space-based unmanned intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and information delivery platforms)。
Last but not least, ethical considerations and concerns arising from and arising from cognitive warfare must be addressed. For the defence community, it is imperative to recognize that the mind is no longer just an integral part of combatants; rather, it is increasingly becoming a central environment and a viable objective of modern conflicts. In an era characterized by intellectual competition and control over thinkers, mastering this area is crucial to maintaining strategic advantages。
