In january 2002, the subject of road and rail engineering at changan university was approved as a national priority, and the special area road engineering laboratory was approved as a ministry of education priority laboratory. For a long time, laboratories have been at the forefront of scientific research, targeting the international frontier and following up on hot spots, with the support of the université de ann, which has made great strides in various aspects of road engineering in special areas. Its findings have been widely used and have been awarded the national prize for progress in science and technology and the shaanxi province prize for science and technology on several occasions! I. Laboratory research team
At present, there are 49 permanent researchers in priority laboratories of the ministry of road engineering of special areas, of whom 37 are professors and 12 are associate professors. Researchers specialize in road engineering, material science, engineering mechanics, geotechnical engineering, transport engineering and information engineering. There are 21 mobile researchers, mainly from foreign and domestic universities, research institutions and large enterprises。
In 2014, with the approval of the ministry of education, the academic council of focus laboratories was replaced with a total of 13 members, currently working at the university of south-east, with a member from the university of mau chang, with the deputy director-general being professor zhou wei, chief engineer of the ministry of transport, and professor ma zhou of the institute of environment and engineering of the dry zone of the cold zone of the middle school college, and 10 other members from the university of toji, harbin industrial university, the institute of design of the first road survey of china, the air force engineering university, the china institute of urban planning and design, chang an university, the university of austen, texas university of the united states, and the university of technology of georgia。

Ii. Main laboratory research directions
For a long time, the ministry of education for special areas has focused on conducting major basic topics and key technical studies on road construction, building on basic research and addressing national needs in the context of current trends in international road traffic development and areas of priority research and development in the transport sector, and leading to the design and use of road surface structures and resources, road structures and materials for green traffic, road traffic safety and disaster prevention, theory and application of road and geotechnical engineering, scientific decision-making and management of road maintenance and road detection and maintenance techniques。

Adequate, advanced laboratory equipment is an important platform and hardware support for major projects at the national level. The department of special area road engineering's priority laboratories now have large-scale international-class sophisticated instrumentation equipment, including the hvs accelerator test equipment, the mmls foot ruler test equipment, the industrial ct, the centrifugal tester, the large-scale deposition test station, the plasmometer, the material test system (mts), the united states strategic road research programme (shrp) asphalt set, the advanced three-axis aeroactivity test system (gds), the industrial computer fragment scan imaging system (ict), the field launch scan scope, the asphalt surface analysis system (apa), the cutting test system (sst), the asphalt mixer test system (utm), the hamburg modular test system (hwtd), the global satellite positioning system (gps), the infra-spectrospectrometer (dsr)。
Based on the need for road engineering studies in special areas, the only tundra engineering laboratory in the national higher education institutions is currently equipped with international advanced equipment such as the cryogenic electron all-power experiment, the fast-frozen melting test, and the water migration test system. In accordance with scientific needs, laboratory personnel have independently developed more than 70 test units, such as vibrating formrs, brush testers, compressors, modified asphalt storage stabilizers and asphalt shearing performance test units, of which vibrating formrs have been replicated throughout the country。

Iv. Results of representative laboratory research
(1) the project “technology for the construction of roads in the highlands for years frozen land areas” has systematically studied the construction techniques for the base roads of the long-frozen land areas of the tibetan highways, developed cement additives and asphalt modifications for years of freezing land areas of the highlands, ensured the low temperature performance of asphalt roads in the high cold areas, filled gaps at home and abroad, and reached an international advanced level, successfully applied to the country's famous tibetan highway and won the first prize for state scientific and technological progress。

(2) the “lusk road study for desert areas” has addressed the arid water scarcity and sand-rich nature of desert areas, conducted research on the techniques of land consolidation and stability of road-based compaction and high-filled road foundations, and developed sand-fixing cells for desert roads, effectively addressing the problems of road construction in desert areas. The results of the study were widely used in areas such as the mausur desert and received the national prize for scientific and technological progress。

(3) “road semi-rigid grass-roots material and structural design theory and methodology”, based on the discovery of semi-rigid grass-roots material performance control principles, proposes semi-rigid grass-roots material structure types and classification methods, develops indoor vibrating pressors, condensing coefficient test systems and swipe test machines for road materials, proposes test kits, successfully resolves the problem of incoherence, stress constraints and instability measured by compressive factors for semi-rigid grass-roots materials, and establishes a design methodology for semi-rigid mass multi-indicators with strength, condensation and flushing as control indicators, bringing the country's semi-rigid grass-roots material design level to the advanced international level. The results were applied in more than 10 provinces and municipalities throughout the country and included in the road asphalt road design code and the road engineering inorganic combination stabilization material test protocol, which received the national prize for scientific and technological progress。

(4) “technology study of road construction in the yellow land area”, which addresses a wide range of specific types of soil in the western part of the country, has developed wet-coloured yellow soil reinforcement material, has effectively improved the engineering nature of the yellow land and has proposed methods of design and disease control measures for the yellow land base slope and has solved the technical difficulties of the construction of roads on the yellow land. The results of the study have been applied to the construction of roads in the vast yellow land areas of western china, such as shaanxi, gansu, qinghai and ningxia, with significant economic and social benefits and the first prize for science and technology in shaanxi province。

(5) “environmental road construction and maintenance technologies” are aimed at building conservation societies, taking into account such factors as the ecological environment of roads, groundwater resources, noise and air pollution, waste management of abandoned road buildings, and conducting research on environmentally friendly road materials, addressing environmental problems such as car tail gas treatment, urban flood clearance, reduced traffic noise, safety of vehicles under ice and snow conditions, and reduced urban hot island effects. The results of the study were successfully applied in more than a dozen provincial and municipal projects in beijing and xian, effectively improving the urban environment, improving the health conditions and living standards of the population, and providing an important contribution to building an environment-friendly, resource-efficient society, with the first prize for science and technology in xanxi province。

Based on the foundation of the study of features developed in the long-term construction process, the ministry of education for road engineering in the special areas of changan university has focused its laboratory on the protection of the national highway network and the construction of the main national highway, which is important for accelerating the implementation of the strategy for the major development of the west, guaranteeing social stability and national unity, and promoting defence and security consolidation.
