The year 2024 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the implementation of intellectual property protection by chinese customs. In 2024, the national customs administration carried out 532,000 intellectual property protections, effectively detained 416,000 shipments suspected of violating the rights and interests of 81,651,000 persons from 58 countries and territories, and defended their rights and interests through customs protection。

Customs protection of intellectual property covers a wide range of types of intellectual property, such as trademarks, patents and copyrights。
The main form is export chain protection
With regard to the law enforcement chain, in 2024 the national customs authorities seized 412,000 shipments and 8,0337,000 shipments suspected of violating the law at the export point, representing 99. 17 per cent of all seizures and 98. 41 per cent of the total number, and 345 shipments and 1. 315 million goods suspected of violating the law at the import stage, a decrease of 34. 16 per cent and 26. 52 per cent, respectively, which remained the main battlefield for the protection of customs enforcement at the national level。
In 2024, customs across the country seized a total of 3,732 shipments suspected of violating the law, an increase of 31. 81 per cent over the same period. Of these, ex officio protective measures were taken to detain 3627 shipments and 65,142,000 items of cargo suspected of being in violation, representing 97. 16 per cent and 97. 81 per cent, respectively, of the seizure of shipments. The use of protective measures to detain more than 1,4435,000 goods suspected of being in violation is nearly five times the same。

In accordance with the general programme for the construction of wisdom customs, the national customs service has made every effort to promote the development and application of intellectual property rights (iprs) in a project-based, inventory-based manner and to create a more scientifically efficient customs protection system for intellectual property rights。
In 2024, the national customs service informed the public security authorities 332 times of suspected intellectual property offences and referred 42 cases, assisted in the destruction of false sites and the capture of suspects, and contributed significantly to the management of the sources of violations and offences。
