Hello, i'm cowboy. I just joined the new team. I know that feeling — like getting a thick book without a catalogue, with a hard-headed page。

Recently, an interesting project was seen on github trending: underwood-anything, which is very simple: to make the code library no longer a black box。

Core characteristics

This tool is essentially a claude code plugin, but its ambition is more than that. It scans your projects with multi-intellectual flow lines, building each file, function, class and dependency into a knowledge map, and then giving you an interactive dashboard。

I'm most impressed by the idea of its design: "a map that will teach you, not a flair." a lot of code visualization tools like to paint dependencies as complex as spider webs, but the goal of underwood-anything is to make you understand how each part works together。

Install usage

Installation is simple and supports multiple ai coding platforms:

When loaded, run /understand can start analysis. It supported incremental updating and would only re-analyse the documents that had been changed and would be friendly to large projects。

It also supports multilingual output, such as the generation of chinese content:

Apply scene

New members on board: no longer need to stare at the code and follow the guide-to-visit (guided tours) sequence the code library structure。

Code review: before submitting the pr, see which modules the changes will affect and avoid inadvertently introducing bugs。

Technical debt clean-up: the location where the modules are seen to pass through is clear。

Teamwork: knowledge maps can be submitted to git and new colleagues can use the code directly without reruning。

Summary

Underwood-anything addresses a real pain point: the cognitive burden of a large code repository. It combines static analysis with llm semantic understanding, the former ensuring accuracy (the same input is the same output) and the latter is intended to be additionally understood (what is this document for)。

The current support for mainstream ai coding tools such as claude code, cursor, vs code + copilot, codex, gemini cli, etc., is extensive. If you're maintaining or taking over a large project, you might want to try, maybe a few less hairs。
