The deputy director-general of the national intellectual property agency, rae wenzheng, explained that in 2025, 972,000 invention patents, 1461,000 practical new ones and 666,000 outward design patents were authorized. By the end of 2025, the number of domestic (excluding hong kong and australia) invention patents had been effective at 5. 32 million, with 16 patents per 10,000 people for high-value inventions. With regard to the continuous improvement in the quality of innovation, rae wenzheng mentioned that in china (excluding hong kong and australia) patents for effective inventions are 2. 2 percentage points higher than the overall rate of increase in the number of high-value inventions, reaching 2. 292,000. The most rapid increase in patents for effective inventions in areas such as information technology management methods, computer technology, medical technology and so forth, with the highest levels of patent effectiveness in the world, as well as the creation of a portfolio of key core technology patents in future industries such as bio-manufacturing, sixth generation communications and others, have contributed significantly to high-level technological self-reliance。
In terms of accelerating the emergence of intellectual property rights (ipr) benefits, rae wenzheng mentioned that the latest data show that china's value added in patent-intensive industries exceeded 18 trillion yuan, rising from 11. 97 per cent of GDP in 2020 to 13. 38 per cent in 2024, and steadily increasing its contribution to economic growth. Of the top 5,000 brands in the world, the chinese brand, with a value of $1. 81 trillion, ranks second in the world. The direct annual value of geographical marker products is close to rmb 1 trillion, with five consecutive increases, making them “gold card” for the enrichment of niche industries, effectively contributing to regional economic development。
